Thermosetting Composites and Related Chemistry

Overview

This course will cover the chemistry, curing mechanism and characterization of common thermoset resins used in composite applications. Typical thermoset resins include unsaturated polyester, epoxy, phenolic resins, thermoset polyurethanes, polyimides and silicones. Applicable manufacturing processes and composite applications will also be covered in relation with the chemistry and curing requirements for each resin type. Finally, hands-on experiments will be carried out on the curing and characterization of various thermoset resins.You will benefit from Sabancı University’s industrial links and research strengths and you will have access to the labs and facilities in SU IMC.

Teaching

The course consists of theoretical components as well as applications. Teaching is provided through lectures, exercise classes, and laboratory work.
