Dr. Serra Topal is currently working as the postdoctoral research associate at SU IMC & CTCE.
Dr. Topal received her B.Sc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2002. He completed his Masters and Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University in 2002 and 2006, respectively. She worked as visiting researcher at the University of Surrey during 2013-2014, and she served at Gazi University for ten years before becoming Instructor Dr at March 2018, before joining the Sabanci University.
Dr. Topal has been working in material optimization and response of advanced materials under thermomechanical loadings since 2003 and in 3D woven composites since 2013. She studied on the thermal analysis and fracture of functionally graded materials (FGMs) during her Master of Science and Ph.D. years, respectively. Following, their research with her UniSurrey team on the late-stage fatigue behavior, damage mechanisms and especially the FEA modeling of 3D woven non-crimp composites was among the earliest ones in that field. She is aiming for conducting studies for her country to become an active player in the global technologies regarding 3D woven composites.
