Tom completed is doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware while conducting his thesis work at the Center for Composite Materials (established in 1974 as one of the first centers dedicated to research on composite materials). His thesis work focused on vacuum-only processes for forming large monolithic composite structures for marine and aerospace applications. Prior to joining Sabanci University, Tom carried out a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Nantes in collaboration with IRT Jules Verne in Nantes, France. There, he studied thermoplastic composite welding processes for next generation commercial aircraft.
