Summary:Graphene has emerged as a subject of enormous scientific interest due to its exceptional electron transport, mechanical properties, and high surface area. Incorporation of small loading of this mircale material into polymer matrices can significantly improves the physical properties and hoost polymer and impart new functionality. On the other hand, synergy between graphene and chemically and electrochemically active materials such as metal oxide can greatly enhance the perforamnce of such materials. In this presentation, I will highlight our efforts on the development of functional graphene-polymer and graphene-metal oxide nanocomposites. Impact of the processing method on the structure and properties of these nanocomposites will be discussed.
Bio: Dr. Ahmed Abdala is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar. He holds Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with Co-maj or in Fiber and Polymer Science from North Carolina State University and received a post-doctorate fellowship from Princeton University.
